A recent study indicates that when it comes to cosmetic plastic surgery procedures, consumers are favoring a traditional liposuction technique called suction-assisted lipoplasty (SAL) to other more modern methods. Following in terms of popularity was a technique called power-assisted liposuction, or PAL. This is a similar procedure to SAL except that PAL uses a vibrating tube to make the removal of fat easier.

After these techniques is the ultrasound-assisted liposuction, or UAL. In this method fat is first liquefied by sound waves which allow it to be suctioned easier. The least popular method was the laser-assisted liposuction and non-invasive techniques including the external ultrasound. Only five percent of survey respondents found these methods to be favored. The doctor who led the survey said that because of the recent nature of some of these techniques, there is a lack of supporting evidence to back up their safety and efficacy. That may be why so many survey respondents still favored the older methods with the longest track records of success.
